Notebook - October 16, 2000

Yeah, yeah, yeah...I know. This is the first update in quite some time. Hey, time flies when you're busy deciding not to do things.

[Reference to magazine I started then quickly ended would go here if I really wanted to get into it. Which I don't. Continue.]

A random mish-mash of thoughts:

As far as I can tell, the Cheney/Lieberman debate went something like this:

Lieberman: Thank you.

Cheney: Thank you.

Lieberman: Thank you.

Cheney: Thank you.

Lieberman: Taxes.

Cheney: Thank you.

Lieberman: Thank you.

Cheney: Thank you.

Ugh. I'm not too thrilled about voting for either Gush or Bore (as Bill Maher calls them), and this namby-pamby, nice guys sitting around the table talking about stuff isn't making my choice any easier. I don't need vicious attacks and verbal jousting...well, actually I do. It's a debate after all. Who says it has to be like a tea party? I can't believe people are mistaking this "nice guy" approach as some sort of progress when it comes to political understanding. Of course, I'm a guy who just used the phrase "namby-pamby," so what the hell do I know?

Lunch at Burger King*: cheeseburger, large fries, root beer. What the HELL have they done with their french fries? It's been a while since I've eaten there, so maybe this is old news, but...the fries, MY GOD THE FRIES! Didn't they test market these things? They don't taste like fries. They are the deep fried, softer cousins of those potato sticks I got in the round can when I was a kid. Jeez. The next time I go there, I'm going to go to the drive-thru and order a cheeseburger and a root beer and see if the person in the window asks me "would you like simulated potato products with that?"

The next time I go there? I'll stick with Wendy's.

So how do you like the new site design? I've always had the idea that I would keep one design for months and months and months. In my more delusional moments, I actually think I will find the PERFECT design, with the PERFECT font and the PERFECT color and the PERFECT layout. It doesn't exist. So I'll keep changing it monthly now, giving the side a monthly issue "feel." That's why the main page is now called "October, 2000" and will change accordingly. Yeah, yeah, I like that idea. If you'd like to get on the mailing list for a once-in-a-while newsletter on what's going on with me, send an e-mail to bob-sassone-subscribe@topica.com.

Lots of new stuff to come at the web site as well (fiction, fiction, fiction, more essays, more everything). And the Notebook (what you're reading now, a weekly rant/journal entry/random note type thing) section will be udated every Monday. See ya then.

Thank you.

And, of course, thank you.

*If you are a close friend or my doctor and you think I should stop eating this stuff and get back into shape after so many months of not exercising, you can replace the words "cheeseburger" and "fries" with "plain chicken sandwich on wheat bread" and "a side of carrots."
